WOW it’s been a long time since my last post. Sorry guys, I’ve been super busy traveling and eating. I know, tuff isn’t?

The life of a blogger!!

So my most recent travels landed me in Singapore. I was only staying a few days, but I decided to stay in a few different hotels around the city so I could get around by foot easier and be closer to different eating spots and city sites. I’ve decided to mix things up a little bit with the site now and add some hotel reviews along side the food content as many of you would ask me questions about where I stayed how I got around ect ect. You asked, so I will deliver.

Lloyd’s Inn!
For the first stretch of my trip I stayed in a beautiful little boutique hotel named Lloyd Inn. Unsurprisingly located on 2 Lloyds Street.  It’s a quiet residential area but only a short walk to the famous Orchard Rd shopping area and Somerset MRT station. It’s like a little hidden oasis in the heart of the city. Very affordable with nice amenities to escape the hustle and bustle of the city when you need it.

The Room!

The room I booked was called “The Garden” however when I was checking in the very friendly receptionist had advised me that I had booked a double bed but there was none available. I was instantly disappointed, until she said. “Don’t worry but as we have upgraded you to a the larger Sky Room

Oh how disappointing! lol

The room was beautiful, with an outside courtyard equipped with a beautiful outdoor bathtub and shower. Perfect for the humid Singapore weather. I won a few brownie points with the better half with this one. The room was clean and well presented. There was a fridge, kettle, water, soaps ect. No mini bar but. Not that I use the mini bar facility usally anyway. There is no kitchen area but there is a communal outdoor pantry area you are free to use that has a coffee machine, ice machine and a microwave.  The bed was large and comfortable. The room was great size for the two of us but would be consider small generally. The only downside was we did find it a little noisy as the room wasn’t super sound proof.

The Court Yard!

The standout point to this place for me was the courtyard.

Incapsulated in lush tropical foliage and scattered with sun lounges and chairs amongst. It is a very calm and serine area where you just feel relaxed. Perfect if you have gone out eating all morning and need a place to unwind. There is a dipping pool there is you want to cool down, and the sounds of the water fountains just top it off. Just upstairs from the courtyard is roof terrace where you can enjoy a few BYO drinks or have a smoke if that is your thing.

Exactly the way I like it in Asia!

BREAKFAST!

Breakfast was included with my booking however it is not supplied by the hotel itself. Instead, they give you vouchers to use at two local restaurants. The restaurants were both located on Killiney Road. Killiney is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and filled with many great stores and restaurants including bakery’s, noodle shops, hot pots, economy meals and you can’t mention Killiney road without mentioning Killiney Kopitiam, as it is believed to be the first kopitiam (traditional coffee shop) and just so happened to be one of the two places we could use our vouchers. So that what we did.

As it was our first breakfast in Singapore, we thought we better try the traditional breakfast, which included toast, soft boiled egg and of course coffee. And for good measure I ordered the French toast cause, why not, why not indeed…   The French toast came with a kaya jam (coconut jam).  How the Singaporean’s ended up have such a westernised breakfast? I leave that for a later time as it will take me a whole blog post to explain. But it’s an interesting story.  Now back to my breakfast.  The toast had the crust cut off and was toasted on a grill which I though was a nice touch with the grill marks on it. I’m a sucker for these little things. Not much I can say about that, it was toast. The egg, now this was the star of the breakfast, the whites were silky and the yolk was custard like. To die for these eggs. The coffee was fragrant and strong. Just the hit I needed to get me going in the morning. Now to the French toast. It was so so. I’ve had better, but it wasn’t terrible. the coconut jam was very nice. All in all a good breakfast, especially the eggs. If I had to sum it up in one word.      Eggcellent!!

BRAKFAST TWO!

The second option for breakfast was at a restaurant called BB&B also on Killiney Road. The BB&B stands for Bread, Beer & Brez’n.  As much as I love a good beer (especially for breakfast) we decided on bread. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, and my better half ordered ham egg and cheese roll. We both elected to have a latte for our coffee.

Not a very authentic Singaporean breakfast at all, but that’s what was on the menu.

I’m not going to lie here. I did not enjoy this breakfast one bit. my croissant was burnt and not tasty at all. The ham and egg rolll was hard and ate like carboard. The coffee was bland and non-fragrant, and quite frankly looked like it came straight out of a machine.   I wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back here.

NEAR BY EATS!!

Being so close to Killiney Road, the food options are almost endless.  From Japanese to western and traditional foods. Indian food is plentiful along side snacks and fresh fruits. But my favorite choice was the economy rice and hawker stalls just at the corner of Llyod & Killiney Road. We ate there several times, and it was cheap! We had rice with fish, noodles, roast meats amongst others. I highly recommend you check it out.

THE VERDICT!

I really enjoyed our two days staying at the Llyod Inn, it was quite and relaxing. It’s the perfect place for a couple, especially if your looking for a romantic getaway. It was a bit small and might feel a bit squashy for some. It is a very minimalistic place, so you won’t find all the hotel services you might want. But if it’s a quite relaxed atmosphere you are looking for, this is the place. Service staff were all so nice and always smiling. location was awesome. I found the value for money was great at $635 AUD for our two-night stay.

Out of 5 Black Sheep’s I rate it at 4.

  • I must note these are solely my own opinions and I have no affiliation with the hotel or any eatery’s mentioned in this post.
